Trotters

The table marks your place. You are low grade caste below. At the end of the hall the staff are elevated. Status gilded on a plate; they don’t eat what we eat. They are apart, they sit apart, talk amongst themselves, retain special privileges. A word or sound out of the dinner line and they glare down thinking badness to the one who burps. And yet, why are they there, who are they there for, how do they make their pecking corn? It was like that in special school. Like it in the last day centre I worked in and as for the food served up from the canteen of the hospital on the hill. Well it goes on still. Let them eat cake.
