Opportunity to work with award-winning Edinburgh-based dance theatre company Curious Seed on a new production for Spring 2019 – a co-production with Lung Ha Theatre Company in association with Lyra.

Sunday, 28 October (11.00- 17.00) Venue: Artspace, Craigmillar (Edinburgh)

We are looking for 2 professional dancers for a new dance theatre production, We Are All Just Little Creatures, co-directed by Christine Devaney, Maria Oller and Jo Timmins. We are seeking versatile performers from a diversity of backgrounds and experiences and we particularly encourage applications from disabled performers.

This ambitious new work will premiere at the Traverse Theatre, Edinburgh in late March / early April 2019 (exact date tbc). The contract will be between 7 – 8 weeks and dancers will be required to be available for the whole working period, with dates as follows:
• 11 February – 23 February: development, devising, Edinburgh (2 weeks)
• 25 February – 31 March: rehearsals, production and premiere, Edinburgh (5 weeks)
• Still to be confirmed 01 April – 7 April: possible touring week (1 week)

Award-winning performance company, Curious Seed, was formed in 2005 by Scottish choreographer, Christine Devaney. Since its inception, the company has forged a deserved reputation for creating innovative, thought-provoking and high-quality dance theatre placing collaboration at the core of its creative process and brings something new and unique to the existing portfolio of dance in Scotland. Over the past 10 years, the company’s critically acclaimed productions have spanned working with a wide range of exceptional artists – musicians, actors, dancers, designers and video makers – to create inspiring and emotionally charged performances that reach across ages and art forms.

Lung Ha Theatre Company is the leading theatre company for people with a learning disability in Scotland, and with a growing reputation internationally. The Company has worked with over three hundred performers with a learning disability creating over forty original productions. The Company has also worked with some of the leading artists and creative organisations across the country, touring internationally to England, France, Ireland, Poland, Sweden and Finland. Lung Ha Theatre Company has now become firmly embedded as part of the cultural output of Scotland, and has even been recognised by the Critics’ Awards for Theatre in Scotland as co-recipient, together with Grid Iron Theatre Company, of the 2009-10 Award in the category of Best Ensemble for the production of Huxley’s Lab.

Since 2012 Lyra has been building a community of children and artists who create and produce world-class live performance and art in Greater Craigmillar, Edinburgh. There have been over 15,000 participations by young people with around 2000 individuals taking part in a range of artistic events. Lyra have created 12 artworks and performed more than 125 times at home and abroad. Lyra runs Artspace, a vibrant venue in the heart of Craigmillar, with 116-seat theatre, a flexible studio and foyer designed by artists with young people. We work with arts professionals from Scotland and abroad to inspire young people, whilst attending to individual pastoral needs (such as behavioural support or home pick-ups) to enable participants to focus on their cultural engagement.
