Open Theatre Company (OTC) is a registered charity, looking for committed and authentic individuals to support an exciting period of development, as the charity becomes a National Portfolio Organisation in April 2018 and we move into a period of expansion.

For over 30 years, OTC has been working through non-verbal physical theatre, to create deep and meaningful interventions in the lives of young people with learning disabilities (YPWLD). Working in collaboration with them we devise a range of theatre, film and outdoor productions. The company works extensively in schools and other settings throughout Birmingham and Coventry, encouraging students of all abilities to experiment and express themselves through creativity, and supporting talented YPWLD into employment within the creative industries.

Role Description
We are looking for up to four new people to join our trustee board, to advise, guide and help shape the company as it evolves. We are looking for individuals who are knowledgeable and passionate about the arts and providing creative experiences and opportunities to enrich the lives of all YPWLD.
We would welcome new trustees with skills and connections in any of the following areas:
– Financial management
– Legal and HR
– Promotion and marketing
– Diversity and inclusion
– Strategic business development

The time commitment for the board of trustees is attendance at 6 meetings per year, plus an annual away day and an AGM. Board papers are sent in advance of meetings and preparation prior to the meeting is expected. Additional time is likely in this development process to support specific tasks or initiatives and provide a sounding board to the staff and other board members.
The role of a trustee is not remunerated but reasonable expenses will be paid.

How to Apply
Please send your expression of interest (1 side of A4) to, outlining how you feel your skills and experiences meet the requirements indicated in this brief, and specify which of the current skills gaps/specialisms you meet.

The closing date for application is 24th November 2017.
