Rashmi Becker recently set up Step Change Studios – a pioneering inclusive dance company – in response to the lack of opportunities for disabled people to participate in Latin and Ballroom dance.
Following an arts grant, Step Change has grown rapidly and in response to demand, the company is providing a multi-dance approach so that people can participate in a range of dance genres including street and contemporary, as well as Latin and Ballroom.
Step Change Studios is pan-disability supporting all ages and abilities to participate. Our work can range from one off sessions to regular courses and preparing groups to perform. Examples of work include: teaching a 12-week dance courses in community centres for older people; preparing people with learning disabilities to perform a piece in an arts festival; chair-based dance for people with limited mobility; courses for children with special needs in schools, youth centres and play groups; and specialist wheelchair dance programmes.
The response and growth has been such that Step Change Studios is now looking for more excellent inclusive dance teachers in different genres including street, contemporary, Latin & Ballroom. As well as professional dance experience, the qualities that are essential are: passionate about supporting everyone to dance; reliable and dedicated; fun and creative – adapting dance to different needs and abilities; empathetic; and personable. There are a number of immediate opportunities.
Step Change Studios will support and brief dance teachers on working with different groups of participants and provide opportunities for reflective learning and development.

This is rewarding, creative work that makes a real impact.
