Beware the Mumbot – guardian of our Flotilla

Cardboard sculpture of a pink robot

Beware the MUMBOT – destroyer of stereotypes.

On Monday I had an inspiring morning working with members of Art Matters.

Interestingly, their workspace is not far from from Earlswood where James Henry Pullen spent his life. Their space is dedicated to to making art and their work hangs or is displayed in every available space around the work area. There are many fascinating images and objects there it’s a place I wont forget.

Though all of the craft Art Matters are making are wonderful I write this entry to flag up a piece made by Anna, who drew inspiration from Pullen’s Giant which is also on display at Watts Gallery.

Her piece ‘The MUMBOT’ is a destroyer of stereotypes.

I think it is such an intuitive and fitting work given the variety and quality of the craft that we have been making, and it exemplifies the spirit of our project in a heart warming , in your face way that cannot be ignored. I think Pullen would have liked it.
