Hello and welcome to Week 5 of the Measuring Up project!
It’s All Coming together!
This week we moved from the rehearsal room into the studio. Jocelyn has completed the floor cloth and it was down and ready for me to explore. It is truly beautiful, based on a Mondrian design, there is a lot of monotone shapes with patches of red and blue. The detail is amazing. And most importantly for me, the different textured surfaces mean I can navigate the space more effectively.
During the week more set has been appearing and we are using actual props instead of imaginary ones. We have also started working with the beautiful animations Laura has created, and begun plotting lights. The overall impact of the technical additions is very magical!
Chloe Clarke was with us on Tuesday and she helped us clarify scenes for visually impaired audiences. She also helped us think more clearly about how we were planning to work with voice overs. As with Sign Language, all the AD will be built in. We have asked Lisa Hammond and Rachael Spence from Bunny Productions, to script and record commentary to cover the visual scenes in the show.
As Measuring Up is about my writing block, the visual scenes mainly focus on me sitting at the brailler, not writing.
The projection will display a word or phrase, such as ‘Nothing’ or ‘You are not a writer’, and will indicate the time.
Lisa and Rachel have put together some really funny audio tracks based on the projection words, that will be played over this. Basically, they have become my demons, those voices in my head who mock me.
Lisa and Rachel are currently on tour with Still No Idea. Find out more on their website. http://www.bunnyproductions.co.uk/still-no-idea
