City centre Bruntwood space – Manchester One, will host the final exhibition to complete the PERSPECTIVES series – a variety of exhibitions, happenings and creative exchanges proudly presented by Venture Arts , a visual arts organisation who support and nurture the work and careers of learning disabled artists.
From October 2018 through to February 2019 and showcasing over 80 learning disabled artists, Venture Arts have been delivering a program of exhibitions, happenings and accompanying events across Manchester and Salford. Previous venues have included; Fred Aldous Ltd , The Manchester Contemporary , Elizabeth Gaskell’s House, The Lowry , the Whitworth (Thursday Lates takeover), and Studio 53, Venture Arts’ new studio and exhibition space with their finale at Manchester One, 53 Portland Street.
Artworks displaying themes around collections that have been developed over the last two years will be celebrated through a variety of media including, sculpture, ceramics, mixed media, photography and textile pieces.
Highlights include the work by multidisciplinary artist Terry Williams and his grainy black and white photographs documenting times gone by and holiday memories, that capture his sense of northern nostalgia.
Ahmed Mohammed, who found success at The Manchester Contemporary 2017 selling his first exhibited triptych, will display abstract family portraits, new vivacious and densely layered oil pastel works. Horace Lindezey also shares his enthralling fascination with weddings, and everything associated with them, across clay, embroidery and photomontage.
On the 2nd February, 1-3pm, there will be a chance to meet the artist, eat cake and reminisce about weddings stories with the opportunity to contribute photographs and images to inform and inspire the artist to create new work.
Perspectives will share not only the different perspectives of the artists in terms of their artwork and disciplines, but also how they view and exist in the world today as practicing contemporary artists with learning disabilities.
PERSPECTIVES opens on Tuesday 29th January until Sunday 5 th February 2019 at Manchester One, 53 Portland street, M1 3LD.
