UK Disability History Month

UK Disability History Month (UKDHM) has been an annual event since 2010, creating a platform to focus on the history of disabled peoples’ struggle for equality and human rights.

Every year UKDHM has focussed on a different theme and this year the emphasis is on Leadership, Resistance and Culture, examining how the leaders of the disabled peoples movement managed to change the way disability was seen as a personal burden to a human rights issue through using the social model of disability.

The UKDHM-2019-Broadsheet offers examples of individual and collective resistance to the oppression disabled people have faced at work, in education, in their local community and the collective strength of disabled people in the Disability Movement for fairness, equality and a life worth living

Over the coming month between 18th November – 20th December 2019 DAO will publish a range of features reflecting our Disability History. For more information about UK Disability History Month visit https://ukdhm.org
