The BDA stands for Deaf Equality, Access and Freedom of Choice. Every Deaf person should have the right to choose to sign or speak or both without sanction and without obstacles.

The BDA campaign for legal recognition is long-running: in fact, this campaign is now well into its second century! We have seen progress in Scotland, and with the framework in Northern Ireland, as well as driving for big changes in individual rights. We are currently working with many government departments and the All Party Parliamentary Group on deafness and will work tirelessly to achieve our ultimate aim.

The organisation operates with offices throughout the United Kingdom. The BDA website includes resources relevant to Deaf culture, British Sign Language and a helpline providing advice and information on a range of subjects such as welfare benefits, education and the Disability Discrimination Act (DDA).
