join us at the newbridge project : gateshead for rose carved in rain for an exhibition of defiance and wonder from artist-performer-writer gobscure responding to the art and life of parajanov in sound, installation, visual-poetry and questionings

sergei parajanov (1924-1990) is world-renowned as film director. he was also an incredible writer and of artist of armenian descent. however, parajanov’s artistic audacity and multi-faceted approach also met with rejection while as a bisexual parajanov experienced regular incarceration and years of mental torment at the hands of ussr. for years the soviets tried to stop parajanov yet his art could not be silenced. as dissident he used childlike wonder to speak against authoritarian rule and question the ‘norms’ of society.

came across art ov this fat-mad-bisexual lifelong-dissident accidentally while barely surviving in a homeless hostel after worst sectioning of our life & recognised we share/d so much.

we all need our dreams back
