ARTIFICIAL THINGS will be streamed on 18 May at 8pm alongside a live Watch Party on YouTube with special guests choreographer Lucy Bennett, performer David Toole (OBE) and writer and arts producer Amber Massie-Blomfield. The video will also be streamed on our Facebook page. Filmed on location in a derelict suburban shopping mall and featuring an ensemble of disabled and non-disabled dancers, the film explores human interdependence, strength, and vulnerability. The film is a re-imagining of the stage work of the same name and dancers Amy Butler, Laura Jones, Chris Pavia, David Willdridge and David Toole (OBE), who devised the original piece, all appear in the film.
Stopgap is a UK-based ensemble, which brings together disabled and non-disabled dancers and artists, operating with a distinctive movement aesthetic, and collaboratively developing work that “seeks to open a window into a parallel world where human interdependence, strength, and vulnerability play out with poetic realism.”
Stopgap Dance Company will also be releasing its previous dance film works Chris et Lucy and other short works on Facebook and YouTube over the next few weeks. The Company is also offering a range of online classes for professionals and young people, which you can see on ‘What’s On’ section of the website.
