Hi! I’m Ellie McPhail, founder of Boredom Bags UK, a new children’s activity company which launched nationally in October 2020. We create big bags full of fun and varied activities designed to beat boredom and inspire children’s creativity.

I am looking to collaborate with a disabled illustrator/comic artist (this could be a student) to create a handful of colouring in sheets (or something similarly interactive that a child can apply their own creativity to) that celebrate disability. The artist’s disability can be seen or silent, what’s important to me is that is it an artist with a disability rather than not.

I am looking to include these in our 2nd edition of our Boredom Bags which I am currently creating ready for issue in the final week of March 2020. Therefore I would ideally like to have the everything ready by the end of February.

As a new start up company that is run out of our family home I do not have a budget to pay a handsome commission for this although I would be happy to discuss what we can do in kind to support and showcase the artist. This would be one of 35 activities included in the bag many of which utilise donated recycled and unwanted craft materials which we reimagine as packaging solutions and as the components of some of the activity kits inside. I’d like it to be an opportunity for us to showcase an artist who isn’t already a household name who would enjoy making the project their own and would benefit from our being able to introduce them/their work widely through our social media platforms as well as with the customers.

Prior to COVID 19 and founding boredombags.uk I worked as a theatre Casting Director (Ellie Collyer-Bristow CDG). My husband, who I run the business with, used to be an actor and is now a primary teacher. We set up the company to help families across the UK who are parenting in a pandemic to gift their children fun and creative activities to do whilst at home. Boredom Bags are designed to encourage choice and promote lifelong creative skills/curiosity .
