The Unspoken Project makes theatre with disabled and non disabled people, especially those with communication difficulties. We are inviting UK based writers who use Augmentative and Alternative methods of communication (AAC) to submit new writing for the stage. We are looking for 5-10 minute pieces on the themes of:
• the social and medical models of disability
*The Social Model is when disability is seen as a social construct, and it is society being so inaccessible that causes disability. The Medical Model is when finding a ‘cure’ for disability is the main focus to blend in with non disabled society.*
• ‘cures’
• therapy
• disabled identities
• disability politics.
This is for the beginning stages of our new project bringing together AAC voices and writing to the stage. We are particularly interested in politically-focused pieces. If you are interested in applying, please send us an email telling us about yourself, (up to 200 words) with your writing (5 -10 mins long, early drafts accepted) to hq.unspoken@gmail.com. You can find out more about Unspoken on our website.
