Inclusive Arts Practitioner Call Out:
Youth Theatre Squared

The New Wolsey Theatre is looking for arts practitioners who have experience in working with disabled young people and those with additional needs, to join our Youth Theatre Squared group delivery team. Read on for more information!

Our Youth Theatre Squared groups offer a relaxed space specifically for disabled young people, and young people who have additional needs, to take part in creative activities in an inclusive and supported environment. Sessions are engaging and fun, and are designed to build confidence, aid communication and raise aspirations.

Each term all our youth theatre groups (8 in total) explore a new theme, which this term is FREEDOM. Our practitioners are encouraged to approach each theme as a jumping off point and with their own practice in mind, while ensuring that participant voice is front and centre. While theatre making and storytelling are central to our practice, we are keen to introduce other creative disciplines to these groups to further develop skills and confidence.

Youth Theatre Squared groups meet as follows:
Mondays during term time at NW2 (the participation building right in front of the main New Wolsey Theatre, Civic Drive, Ipswich IP1 2AS)
Group 1: 5.45pm-7pm (approx. 4-5 participants with a higher level of need)
Group 2: 7.45pm-9pm (approx. 12 participants with a lower level of need)

We are keen to hear from practitioners with the following skills:
• Artistic practice which reflects the wider arts spectrum (as well as theatre making this may also include music, visual arts, digital arts and more)
• Experience of planning and delivering workshops with disabled young people & young people with additional needs
• Committed to developing young people’s confidence and aspiration
• Experience of working as part of a delivery team
• Self-motivated, efficient, and well organised

Practitioners will be employed on a freelance basis and paid at a competitive rate.

We actively encourage applications from people of all backgrounds, especially those currently less represented in our organisation, the arts industry and on our stages. We are particularly interested to receive applications for this role from people from Black, Asian and ethnically diverse backgrounds, those who identify as deaf and disabled people, and neurodiverse people.

We are happy to make all reasonable adjustments to enable applicants to participate in the selection process, and for the successful applicant to carry out their role.

If you are interested in working with us, please send your CV and a short letter telling us your relevant experience to Sian Thomas, Creative Communities Producer at sthomas@wolseytheatre.co.uk or post to New Wolsey Theatre, Civic Drive, Ipswich, Suffolk IP1 2AS.

Deadline to apply: Monday 4th October at 5pm

We look forward to hearing from you!
