This year’s successful recipient will be awarded £7,000 and a three-month residency at Turner Contemporary, Margate from February to April 2017.

The Bursary provides an opportunity for artists to develop their ideas and practice without pressure to deliver a particular outcome such as finished or exhibition-ready work. Previous residencies have been hosted by The New Art Gallery, Walsall, Camden Arts Centre, London and Spike Island, Bristol.

World-renowned sculptor Sir Antony Gormley RA commented:

“Adam was inspirational as an artist and a man – seeing his disability as a strength. This bursary is the most practical and powerful way to continue doing what Adam did to make the possible palpable.”
This year, the residency will be held in Turner Contemporary’s Clore Learning Studio, an amazing facility with floor-to-ceiling windows and a view out to the sea. The Clore Learning Studio is a public space and will be open to gallery visitors throughout the residency period.

Tony Heaton, CEO of Shape Arts said:

“We are really pleased to announce that submissions are now open for our 9th Adam Reynolds Memorial Bursary. Adam, as well as being an exceptional disabled artist, was also the Chair of Shape in the ‘90s and so the bursary is incredibly important for us in keeping his memory and legacy alive, especially during this year – our 40th anniversary. Turner Contemporary is a world-class gallery and we are thrilled to be working with them and to have them host the ARMB – one of the most significant and influential aspects of our programme.”

The residency will also include developing and delivering public-facing activities with Turner Contemporary and Shape and showing work as part of the Adam Reynolds Memorial Bursary Shortlist exhibition.

The deadline for submissions is 1 August 2016. Please see here for details on how to apply for the Adam Reynolds Memorial Bursary 2016/17.
