Miniature Tate Modern replica to tour England showcasing disabled and marginalised artists

From 18 November to 11 December, Creative Future’s Tight Modern pop-up gallery will start at the Jubilee Library, Brighton, before setting off on a UK tour showcasing the work of sixty disabled and marginalised artists, including those experiencing ill-health, homelessness, financial issues, and social exclusion. The 2016/17 tour is expected to be seen by over 100,000 people with dates in Merseyside, London and Portsmouth.

As well as having their work shown to thousands of people, the featured artists will all be in with a chance to win prizes, including up to £250 in cash, art course vouchers, mentoring and CASS art materials, plus all winners are rewarded with a subscription to a-n (The Artists Information Company) that includes public liability insurance. A full list of the prizes on offer is below.

Last year, the 8ft x 5ft miniature replica of the iconic Tate Modern showcased John’s work, a learning disabled artist who experiences depression. His work went on tour, was seen by over 42,000 people and he won first prize. John went on to attend three of Creative Future’s courses for marginalised artists: Getting Your Work Out There, Using Social Media and Organising an Exhibition.

The last course culminated in another exhibition featuring John’s work, this time at Brighton and Hove Wellbeing Centre as part of the Brighton Christmas Open Houses. John was one of five artists who were taught how to prepare and hang art work and produced prints and cards for sale. He has since applied for an Open University arts degree and is pursuing his work as an artist.
