DAO Artist Support

Support for creatives offered by the Disability Arts Online team

Disability Arts Online’s Talent Development Programme aims to nurture disabled creatives from the very beginning of their professional practice through to established careers. The key opportunities on offer provide a pathway for support, which you can progress through on a timescale that suits you.

Watch, read or listen

  • Access a variety of creative content in our magazine
  • Attend DAO events, webinars and workshops to help you explore specific topics related to being a disabled creative in a professional context
  • Dive deeper into our resources which cover issues such as how to create an access rider, how to apply to Access to Work and more.

Participate in a project

Get featured on the website

  • Become a regular contributor to the community section of the website, blogging about your practice and chatting with other disabled creatives.
  • Get a profile in our artists directory to help boost your profile.
  • Request a feature about your work in our magazine. Let us know if you have a project on the go, an exhibition or show coming up, or something you think our readers would like to hear about. Email [email protected] to see if an interview or profile might be an option.

Take the lead

  • Apply to do a week-long DAO Instagram Takeover of our account @disabilityarts.
  • Apply to do a Content Takeover of our online magazine. This involves commissioning and editing content for a two-week slot (two opportunities per year). Keep an eye on our Opportunities page for our next call out.
  • Apply to become a DAO Associate for extended support plus seed funding for a project.

Ongoing Relationship

  • Artists who have been through this talent development pathway then take up other opportunities. For example, being a lead artist on a project or being referred for other sector opportunities when organisations get in touch for recommendations.
